Cooking is one of the things that the hubby and I like to do together. We are self-proclaimed foodies. We have similar tastes in food as well. Although we will try anything, down home or comfort type foods seem to be what we enjoy the most. Because hubby and I like to try new things, we hope that our children will as well. We have Little Man on the right track.
Gooseberry Patch is a company that I am quite familiar with ... in fact, I often get myself into trouble because of the variety. I am an avid cookbook lover and their selection is astronomical. I cannot say how many I already own because hubby reads this and will know. I am a collector and I could spend all day looking through their selection.
These are the two ladies who are responsible for my addiction:
Back in 1984, they were next-door neighbors raising their families in the little town of Delaware, Ohio. They were two moms with small children looking for a way to do what they loved and stay home with the kids too. They shared a love of home cooking and making memories with family & friends. After many a conversation over the backyard fence, Gooseberry Patch was born.
They put together the first catalog & cookbooks at their kitchen tables and packed boxes from the basement, enlisting the help of their loved ones wherever they could. From that little family, they've grown to include an amazing group of creative folks who love cooking, decorating and creating as much as they do.
Hard to believe it's been over 25 years since those kitchen-table days. Today, they're best known for their homestyle, family-friendly cookbooks. They love hand-picking the recipes and are tickled to share their inspiration, ideas and more with you!

Again, their cookbook selection is quite large. Gooseberry Patch cookbooks are too numerous to mention here. Their cookbooks range from Comfort cooking, cookbooks dedicated to Canning & Preserving, cookbooks for Kids cooking, to Christmas recipes! I was given the opportunity to review one of their new cookbooks, 101 Autumn Recipes. “101 Autumn Recipes has a bushel of yummy recipes for enjoying the harvest season! Whether tailgating or having friends over for a get-together, guests will savor toasted ravioli, cheddar-bacon balls and touchdown butterscotch dip. Welcome your family home with an oh-so easy weeknight dinner of cheesy chicken & noodles. You'll even find spooky Halloween treats like spiderweb cookies and cream-filled witches' hats! And everyone at your Thanksgiving table will be delighted with herb garden turkey breast, green bean bundles and honey-pumpkin pie. Best of all, every recipe is accompanied by a photo of the delicious dish. Whatever the occasion, 101 Autumn Recipes will help make every gathering special!”
Upon receiving 101 Autumn Recipes, I immediately, and excitedly sat down and started bookmarking the recipes I wanted to try first. I use mini post-it’s. They are small but I can make a little note on it as well. First, I love that the book is spiral bound. It is so frustrating to try to keep along with a recipe and the page closes on you. Not an issue when spiral bound. Second, I also like that each recipe is on it's own page, making it is easy to read. All Gooseberry Patch cookbook recipes use ingredients that you would have in your pantry or that are easy to locate at your grocery store.
We plan to try many of the recipes, but I started with the Bran & Raisin Muffins. I had heard these are good and I wanted something that I could grab on my way out the door to work. We both really liked them and feel that this will become a staple in our home. It can be eaten for breakfast or a quick snack.
Each week Gooseberry Patch features a recipe from one of their collectible cookbooks. They shared the Loaded Mashed Potato Casserole on their site, so I thought I’d share that with you!
Loaded Mashed Potato Casserole
5 to 6 potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 c. milk
8-oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
8-oz. container sour cream
2 t. dried parsley
1/2 c. milk
8-oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened
8-oz. container sour cream
2 t. dried parsley
1 t. garlic salt
1/4 t. nutmeg
3/4 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
12 slices bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
1/4 t. nutmeg
3/4 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
12 slices bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled
Cover potatoes with water in a large saucepan; bring to boil over medium heat. Reduce heat; simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. Drain well. Mash until light and fluffy. In a large bowl, beat together all ingredients except Cheddar cheese and bacon until smooth and creamy. Spoon into a lightly greased 13"x9" baking pan; sprinkle with cheese and bacon. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until heated through. Serves 10 to 12.
I am really happy with this cookbook, as I have been with all my Gooseberry Patch cookbooks. I will definitely be getting more over time. While you are checking out the cookbooks, be sure to check out their other great items. They carry some really nice Calenders & Organizers, many of which include recipes and some really great kitchen items. I have purchased many wonderful items from Gooseberry Patch & have been quite pleased. I have also purchased many gifts and the recipients of the gifts were also quite pleased.
