Holiday Question:

If your child believes in Santa, do you let them continue believing, running the risk that they are told, or worse, made fun of by other children for believing? Or, do you tell them the truth? For those that believe you tell the truth, at what age would you do so?

I think it is best to let them believe as long as possible! They grow up so fast anyway!! Yes, you risk the chance of them hearing things from others. I think that they continue to believe even after they hear talk from their friends. When they are ready to longer believe, then they will put things together. Either way, it does not hurt to have an idea of what you will say when they ask. There are always "magical" things you can do to keep them believing a little longer.

I say, they are only children for a short time. Let them be, let them believe, let them be carefree for as long as possible! Kids seem to grow up way too fast these days and I think it's time we just let them be kids!

We kind of prolonged our kids' belief of Santa because Santa always seemed to bring them the things Mom and Dad said "no" to. As the kids got into middle school, we would ask questions to try to figure out if they still believed or not. They didn't let on for years and years. Finally, we confronted it head on and they admitted they had known the truth about Santa for some time, but they loved the idea of believing.
